Following the success of the inaugural SSE Airtricity and Eco-Schools Global Wind Awards, held last June, more than 1100 Eco-Schools from across Northern Ireland are once again being invited to enter this year’s Global Wind Awards as part of the Global Wind Week celebrations.
Victoria College Belfast, Irvinestown Primary and Fairview Primary, were notable winners at last year’s awards, and Eco-Schools will once again be invited to show the green credentials by entering the Eco-Committee of the Year and Operation Energy Project of the Year awards.
To enter the Awards, all each school needs to do is submit a short 500 word entry sharing their Eco-Schools ideas and achievements over the last 12 months. The closing date for the receipt of entries is 9th May.
Shortlisted finalists will be announced in May and will be invited to progress on to an awards ceremony to be held at Northern Ireland’s largest wind farm cluster, Slieve Kirk Wind Park in County Derry~Londonderry on Thursday 12th June. Once again, the event will be a highlight of Global Wind Week, the annual celebration of wind power and renewable energy.
Josh Bradley, SSE Airtricity, said: “Last year’s awards were a great indication as to just how enthusiastic and dedicated Northern Ireland’s Eco-Schools are when it comes to studying energy and the environment. We are looking forward to recognising their achievements later this June at the Global Wind Awards.”
Carmel Fyfe, Eco-Schools Manager at Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, added: In addition to a guided tour of SSE Airtricity’s Slieve Kirk Wind Farm, finalists attending the Global Wind Awards event in June will also have the opportunity to win renewable energy education sets and energy efficiency goodie packs for their schools and their Eco-Committee.”
