SSE Renewables get busy painting and planting at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Dublin

Employees from SSE Renewables, Ireland’s largest renewable energy developer, spent a day away from their desks to help out at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin, Dublin.
As part of SSE’s Community at Heart programme, the company gives each staff member the chance to take a day off from their usual schedule, and instead work with a community or charity organisation of their choice.
Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin is Ireland’s largest paediatric hospital. It is also the national centre for a number of specialities, including childhood cancer and cystic fibrosis. More than 10 SSE Renewables staff used their Community at Heart day to help paint benches and replant trees at the hospital.
Paul Whelan, SSE Renewables Safety Manager, said: “We were delighted to be able to help out at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital through the Community at Heart programme. The hospital is such an important resource and it was great to see everyone getting stuck in and doing their bit for the community. SSE Renewables employees have always been very willing to give up their time to help non-profit organisations and it’s great to see this continuing in 2014. The Community at Heart programme encourages all staff to get out and give something back, and it’s fantastic to see so many people taking up the opportunity.”
In the past, staff members have used the Community at Heart scheme to volunteer for groups such as the Irish Cancer Society, LauraLynn House and Barnardo’s. Over the last 12 months, SSE Ireland employees have contributed a total of 615 Community at Heart days, with 78% of all staff using their allowance.
