A class of around 25 pupils from Avoch Primary School in the Scottish Highlands recently enjoyed a behind the scenes look at SSE’s Fairburn wind farm.

Primary four pupils from the school, which is around 10 miles north of Inverness, were given a guided tour of the wind farm by SSE’s staff where they discovered how wind is harnessed to produce energy.

Marianne Townsley, Public Liaison Manager for SSE was one of the staff members who helped facilitate the visit, and said: “I’m delighted that so many of the pupils enjoyed the day and hopefully we’ve inspired some future engineers.

“As a responsible community member SSE is happy to help facilitate these types of school trips and on a personal level I don’t ever remember getting such interesting field trips during my time at school, so I was eager to help out.”

Fairburn wind farm is located south of Loch Achonachie in Glen Orrin, Ross-shire and became fully operational in February 2010.
