A safety leader recognised

17 Aug 2014

In June, it was announced that SSE Ireland's Safety Manager, Paul Whelan received the Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA) safety leadership award for 2013/14.

He was presented the award at the IWEA annual conference in recognition of the significant contribution he has made towards helping to set up and drive the health and safety improvement programme within IWEA with both the executive and the entire membership (over 500 active member organisations).

The theme of this year’s conference was “Irish Wind Energy Association - Powering Safety", a theme that has now become part of the mindset of all those involved with IWEA. Kenneth Mathews, the Chief Executive of IWEA commented on Paul’s work over the last few years as follows:

“One person encompasses safety leadership in our industry today; his enthusiasm, commitment and drive for safety best practice and excellence is unrivalled but above all his ability to bring people with him on the safety journey is what make him stand out most – Paul Whelan”

Safety is our number one value here at SSE, and it is a true testament to Paul’s commitment and drive to improving safety within the industry that he has received this recognition.  We are very proud to join in congratulating him on this award and recognising the great work that he continues to do to extend the safety family not only within SSE but also across the wider wind industry in Ireland.
