SSE to hold information day for local business and skills training opportunities

24 Mar 2015

SSE’s Clyde wind farm will open its doors next week to local businesses and anyone considering a career in the construction and renewables industries.  The open day will provide information on the possible opportunities available through the construction of the recently consented Clyde extension wind farm, situated between Biggar, Abington and Moffat on the South Lanarkshire and Scottish Borders boundary.

The Clyde Extension: Opportunities for Local Businesses, Suppliers and Labour drop-in event will be held from 12.00pm-6.00pm on Thursday 2 April 2015 at Clyde wind farm operations building (accessible via Entrance F, situated on the B7076 between Crawford and Moffat). During the construction phase, it is estimated that the project could contribute as much as £120million to the Scottish economy and is expected, on average, to support around 500 jobs in Scotland through supply chain contracts.

Murdo McGhie, Director of SSE Onshore Renewables said: “We look forward to welcoming local businesses, and those who are interested in skills training opportunities through the wind farm’s construction, to our event. For many, it may be the first time they have visited the Clyde operations building to see the hard work and investment that SSE has created locally.”

“We would like to thank Scottish Borders Council, South Lanarkshire Council and Lanarkshire Chamber of Commerce for their support in organising the event and we hope as many people as possible attend to find out about the expected opportunities. The construction of Clyde extension is expected to bring significant local benefits through direct and indirect employment, skills training and over £20million of long-term support for local projects from the community investment fund.”

Representatives from SSE, our contractors Balfour Beatty, and Siemens will be on hand to answer any questions on the day. South Lanarkshire Council’s Business Development Team and Lanarkshire Chamber of Commerce will also be there to offer practical advice to attendees.
