Community enjoy Family Information Day at Clyde wind farm

02 Sep 2015

SSE opened the doors of Clyde wind farm to the public on Saturday (August 29), hosting the site’s first community information day

A team of SSE volunteers welcomed more than 50 visitors throughout the day, who came along to learn more about the 152 turbine wind farm which has been operational since August 2012.

The family friendly event, which aimed to provide a fun yet informative insight into how SSE develops, constructs and manages its wind farm portfolio, included bus tours of site and a look inside the Operations and Maintenance Centre.

Pauline Allison, Community Liaison Manager for Clyde Extension, said: “The team at SSE was delighted to welcome all the visitors to site and host our very first open day at Clyde wind farm.

“It was great to see such a mix of ages taking the time and the opportunity to learn and understand more about renewable energy and all the important benefits that are associated with sites like Clyde wind farm.

“For many, it was the first time they had visited a wind farm and seen a turbine up close.  We were proud to showcase all the hard work on site and the amount of investment and jobs created locally.”

Calum Hume, SSE Operations Manager, added: “Thanks to the good weather and positive attitude of everyone who came along, it was a very enjoyable day and of great interest to our neighbours and the community around Clyde.

“Having such positive feedback from our visitors just goes to show the value of these of events and of engaging with the communities in which we operate.”
