15 Jun 2016

Another significant milestone in the Beatrice offshore wind farm project was achieved today [15th June] with the signing of the major construction and marshalling works contract.

The contract agreement, between Siemens and Global Energy Group, will see the Nigg Energy Park and the Port of Nigg utilized as the main location for major construction and marshalling works for Beatrice.

This multi million pound contract award is scheduled to commence in the spring of 2018 and is expected to create up to 100 direct and indirect jobs, along with related supply chain opportunities.

The owners of Nigg Energy Park, Global Energy Group, held an event today to mark the signing of the agreement, attended by representatives from the Scottish Government, Siemens, Global Energy Group and Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Ltd (BOWL).

Global Chairman, Roy MacGregor said: “I see this announcement as opening up Nigg as Scotland’s first major renewables hub and look forward to supporting the development and construction of other future wind farms throughout Scotland. I am sure we will see the considerable benefits to the local and wider economy which will come through in jobs and supply chain opportunities over the coming years.”

Paul Cooley, SSE’s Director of Generation Development, said: “Today’s announcement demonstrates BOWL’s commitment to securing local contracts wherever possible during the construction and operational phases. We look forward to working closely with Global Energy Group and Siemens to deliver one of the largest private infrastructure projects ever undertaken in Scotland.”

The £2.6bn Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Ltd (BOWL) project was given the green light for construction by owners SSE (40%), Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) (35%) and Red Rock Power Limited (25%) after reaching Financial Close on 23 May 2016.
