The turbine deliveries at SSE’s Clyde Extension Wind Farm will start today, Monday 11 July 2016.
Deliveries will begin to arrive at the 54 turbine Clyde Extension site, positioned in the land surrounding Camps Reservoir to the north-east of the existing 152 turbine Clyde Wind Farm, as we continue to progress the project.
The route for the turbine blades and tower section deliveries will begin at King George V Dock, Braehead, travelling east on the M8 and southbound on the M74. Exiting at Junction 13, Abington, on the M74 they will then travel north along the A702 and into the site Access 1 at Wandel.
The abnormal loads will be delivered between Monday to Friday each week under police escort with three abnormal load components in each convoy. These abnormal loads are likely to leave the harbour between 0300-0400hrs each delivery day, although these times are subject to change at short notice at the direction of Police Scotland.
Siemens and its turbine component haulier have obtained the necessary permits from Transport Scotland in consultation with Police Scotland to carry out the deliveries.
All other components, including the turbine hub, nacelle and other ancillary parts will be delivered by HGV throughout the week and will only have a Police Scotland escort from Junction 13, M74 along the short section of the A702.
Oliver Flattery, Construction Project Manager for SSE, said: “This marks a significant milestone in the Clyde Extension project and we are looking forward to erecting the turbines in the coming months.
“Although the escorted delivery vehicles will be slow moving, the police will ensure deliveries are carried out safely and with minimum disruption to other road users. We are expecting to start commissioning the site in September this year.”
