Onshore wind farms win in Ireland’s T-4 capacity auction

SSE Renewables secures provisional contract for homegrown Irish energy supply for 2026/27

SSE Renewables is pleased to confirm that it has provisionally secured a capacity contract for nearly 30.5MW* of combined de-rated onshore wind electricity generation to deliver homegrown Irish energy supply in Ireland’s T-4 capacity auction. The contract, if approved, will see SSE Renewables deliver clean, green energy capacity from 11 Irish wind farm sites to Ireland’s national grid in delivery year 2026/27.

In the country’s latest capacity auction, the provisional results of which have been announced today, Ireland’s System Operators have awarded 2.5GW of Total Capacity Contracts to thermal and renewables electricity generators, as well as demand side response units, at an auction clearing price of €83.050/MW.

Under this auction, SSE Renewables has secured a provisional contract for nearly 30.5MW* of combined de-rated onshore wind electricity generation from 11 Irish wind farm sites for the Capacity Year from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027.

The following onshore wind energy units provisionally secured the combined agreement for 30.446MW of de-rated capacity:

  • Bindoo – 48MW de-rated to 4.368MW capacity
  • Coomacheo – 59.225MW de-rated to 5.389MW capacity
  • Cuillagh – 11.88MW de-rated to 1.081MW capacity
  • Dromada – 28.5MW de-rated to 2.594MW capacity
  • Dunneill – 11.05MW de-rated to 1.006MW capacity
  • Gartnaneane – 10.5MW de-rated to 0.956MW capacity
  • Kingsmountain – 23.75MW de-rated to 2.161MW capacity
  • Meentycat – 84.96MW de-rated to 7.731MW capacity
  • Rathcahill – 12.5MW de-rated to 1.138MW capacity
  • Richfield – 27MW de-rated to 2.457MW capacity
  • Tournafulla – 17.2MW de-rated to 1.565MW capacity

The Provisional Results are subject to approval by the Regulatory Authorities and are expected to be confirmed on 29 April.

*A de-rating factor is applied to all capacity according to rules set by Ireland’s System Operators.
