SSE Renewables colleagues brave the dip with the Stoltman’s to help raise funds for charity
22 Dec 2023World's Strongest Man, Tom Stoltman, his brother Luke and a group of enthusiastic colleagues from SSE Renewables, braved the chilly weather as they dipped into Loch Ness, raising funds for Mikeysline.
The charity, which is based in the Scottish Highland’s, was founded in 2015, after a tragic number of suicides in the Highland area. The charity’s focus is to support people of all ages at the most difficult and vulnerable points in their life.
Tom and Luke work closely with Mikeysline and had recently shared their struggles with mental health with the team at SSE Renewables, as they talked about how they dealt with their own insecurities. One of their missions is to try normalise and encourage men talking about their feelings and emotions. Both Tom and Luke regularly take to the cold water, as a way of therapy to support their own mental health.
Allana Mackay from Mikeysline approached the SSE Renewables team and offered the opportunity to join the Stoltman’s and their cold-water challenge. There was a huge amount of support with over 30 people dipping into the chilly 5-degree temperatures of Loch Ness, at Dores Beach, raising over £400 for the local charity.
William Caithness, Operations Manager for SSE Renewables, said:
“Our key message and focus this year has been around wellbeing and mental health, the challenge really put us to the test. It was a first for me and many of the team to brave the cold water, it certainly won’t be the last. Cold Water Therapy certainly gave us all a euphoria high. We would like to thank Allana for making this happen and to Morag from Cameron Tearoom for warming us all up afterwards.”
