Renewables success in T-4 capacity auction in Ireland

– Capacity secured for onshore wind and new battery energy storage in T-4 provisional results –

The provisional results of the Ireland T-4 2028/29 auction were published on Friday 20 December with a total of 5,942MW of capacity agreements awarded to auction participants at a clearing price of €149,960/MW.

In total, SSE has secured contracts for 547MW of de-rated electricity generation capacity* for the delivery year which runs from 30 September 2028 to 30 September 2029.  

This includes agreements secured for 11MW of onshore wind capacity as well as a 10-year capacity agreement for SSE Renewables for its proposed 100MW / 200MWh Derrymeen battery storage project in Co. Tyrone (14MW). The project, which secured an agreement at a clearing price of £150,000/MW, is targeting a final investment decision in 2025 for delivery by the end of 2026.

These provisional results are subject to approval by the Regulatory Authorities and are expected to be confirmed in January 2025. 

*All volumes include a de-rating factor applied in accordance with the rules set by the System Operators and approved by the Regulatory Authorities.
