SSE submits planning application for Glentarken Wind Farm

07 Mar 2025

SSE has submitted a Section 36 planning consent application to Scottish Government Ministers for its proposed 12-turbine, 74MW Glentarken Wind Farm in Perthshire, Scotland.

The project is being developed on a site on the Drummond Estate between St. Fillans and Lochearnhead.

The onshore wind development, which also includes a proposed battery energy storage system (BESS), could power up to 75,000 homes annually*.

The S36 application has been submitted by SSE Renewables to Scottish Ministers, along with an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report. The EIA report is available to view in person via St. Fillans Village Store and online at www.sserenewables.com/glentarken.

If consented and approved for final delivery, a community investment fund would be established for the Glentarken Wind Farm valued at £5,000 per MW installed wind energy capacity per year and index linked to CPI. The funding would be available once main construction starts and would remain in place for the operational life of the project.

Pauline Allison, Stakeholder Engagement Manager, SSE Renewables, said: “We are pleased to be progressing our proposals for Glentarken Wind Farm near St. Fillans having held three rounds of public exhibitions, most recently in November 2024.

“We would like to thank everyone for engaging with us during the development phase of this project and for listening and sharing thoughts and opinions. This information and engagement is extremely important to us, and will continue to inform the project going forward.”
