Construction has started on 17.3MW onshore wind farm
Construction is now underway at SSE’s first onshore wind farm project in Puglia, Southern Italy.
The project, which comprises the combined Castel Favorito and Masseria la Cattiva sites, will have an installed capacity of 17.3MW from five Siemens Gamesa 132-3.4 MW onshore wind turbines. The project is being delivered by Parco Eolico Tramontana S.R.L., a wholly owned subsidiary of FTSE 100 listed company SSE Plc under SSE Renewables.
Early construction work includes building foundations as well as enabling works for site access. Once these works are completed, work will begin on installing the turbines at the combined sites.
Italian firm Idoka Construzioni is the principal contractor. It is anticipated that around 70 construction roles will be supported at peak delivery, providing a boost for the local economy and supply chain in the Puglia region.
Gianluca Mercurio, Country Manager for Italy, SSE Renewables, said:
“It’s fantastic to have construction underway on our Castel Favorito and Masseria la Cattiva wind farm sites in Puglia, our first project in Italy.
“We will be working closely with our contractors and supply chain partners as we look to complete construction of this strategic project.
“The wind farm will play a part in helping Italy and the Puglia-region reach climate targets, helping to strengthen energy security and generating homegrown renewable energy.”
