SSE’s 18.8MW Slieve Divena II Wind Farm, near Ballygawley, Co Tyrone, is now fully operational and generating enough clean, green energy to power 16,500 homes*.
The renewable energy produced by the eight turbines at Slieve Divena II will also help to offset approximately 24,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year from fossil fuel generation.
This is the second wind farm site SSE has completed in Northern Ireland this year, following the completion of the 34.5MW Tievenameenta Wind Farm in nearby Killeter, Co. Tyrone in February.
SSE’s Project Manager for Slieve Divena II, Pat Tierney, said:
“We are delighted that the construction of Slieve Divena II has been safely completed and the wind farm is now fully operational. This wind farm will help power more homes and businesses with clean, green energy, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Alongside the positive environmental impacts, the construction of the wind farm has brought economic benefit to the local area, through jobs and supply chain opportunities.
“The successful construction phase of Slieve Divena II is a credit to the whole team who worked on the project. Their dedication and professionalism ensured that the wind farm was delivered on time and to the highest possible standard. The construction saw 1,150 workers log 149,500 working hours, with no accidents or lost time injuries, a remarkable achievement on a project of this scale.
“I also want to say a huge thank you to the local community. The cooperation and patience of local residents allowed the construction process to run smoothly, and helped us get the project finished ahead of schedule.”
