Coomatallin wind farm is located near Dunmanway in West Cork.

The four turbine, six MW wind farm entered commercial operation in 2005. Coomatallin wind farm can power around 4,000 homes and help abate almost 5,000 tonnes of harmful carbon dioxide per annum.

The Coomatallin Community Fund launched in 2006. So far over €252,000 has been presented to groups around the wind farm.

We are now seeking to extend the operational lifetime of the wind farm by a further 20 years up to 2046 to continue both the provision of renewable energy and Coomatallin’s contribution to meeting Ireland’s renewable energy targets.

An extension of life will also ensure the continuation of community funding, and that Cork County Council continues to receive rates payments linked to the wind farm which will contribute towards services such as roads, local infrastructure and public services.

Coomatallin Community Fund

Through our Coomatallin Community Fund programme, we make over €10,000 per year available for local projects promoting energy efficiency and social sustainability.
