Fiddler's Ferry Battery Storage Project
(In construction)
Fiddler’s Ferry is a 150MW capacity battery energy storage system (BESS) located near Warrington, Cheshire. SSE Renewables took a final investment decision on the project in December 2023, and construction is due to begin in spring 2024.
The site is located on the grounds of the former SSE-owned Fiddler’s Ferry power station, which was decommissioned in March 2020. Final demolition of its cooling towers was completed in 2023.
SSE Renewables will partner with OCU Energy and Fluence to deliver the Fiddler’s Ferry BESS project. Once operational, the site will be capable of powering up to 250,000 of homes.*
